  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Suman 水萬 수만 He was one of the 60 names written by AnChegyem(安處謙) beacause he wanted to treat them with drinks and thanked them for living next to his mother's grave and forbbiding fire and stealing timber(1521)
Sumbuga 愁音夫可 수음부가 A Ya-in(野人) who lived in Segashya(西家舍). (1471)
Sumbur 愁音佛 수음불 Mid 15C, Odoli(斡朶里) who hid a Korean man fled from Joseon (1441)

Sumha 愁音下 수음하 A director(司正) of a Jurchen(女眞) who lived in 下訓春. (1455)
