  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Sori 小里 소리 Mid 15C, Orangkai(兀良哈) who informed the plot of a Ya-in(野人) to sack Joseon. He lived in 甫靑浦
Soriga 小利哈 소리합 Late 15C, 建州衛 Ya-in(野人) who lived with 金寶甫 for twenty years. (1491)
Soringga 蘇里應哈 소리응합 Early 15C, a Ya-in(野人) who was sent as a messenger by Tongto. He was bestowed goods by the king. (1438)
Soringga 所麟可 소린가 An Odoli(斡朶里) (1458-1459)
Soripi 銷里必 소리필 1. A 上護軍 who was appointed his position as a reward for participating in battles when subjugating the northern areas. 2. A 僉知中樞 of Jurchen(女眞) who dedicated local products. (1480)
Sorji 所乙之 소을지 A 千戶 of Orangkai who dedicated local products and was given cotton cloths. (1422)
Soro 所乙吾 소을오 A commander(指揮) of Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in Belin (1455)
