  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Soitemu 所伊加茂 소이가무 A director(司正) of a Jurchen(女眞) who lived in 會伊春. The son of Bak Paida. The grandson of Marato. The brother of Orbingga, Sainbuha, Saintemu. The nephew of Bak Borgoso (1455)
Sojaga 所者介 소자개 An Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in Hunchun(訓春) (1450)
Sojaro 小者老 소자로 Early 17C, a captured chieftain. (1606)
Sojingga 所徵哈 소징합 A Ya-in(野人) who lived in 古斜堂. (1461)
Sojingga 所澄介 소징개 A commander(指揮) of Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in 甫靑浦. The father of Samto. The elder brother of Nuida, Gedu (1455)
