  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Niu Sargida 劉沙乙只大 유사을지대 A brigade commander(萬戶) of Kolkan(骨看) who lived in Gangwai Ejimi. The father of Huronggo. The elder brother of Sorgoda. The uncle of Sangja (1455)
Niu Sartu 劉撒禿 유살독 He was sent by Ni Manju along with 13 others to present local products to the king(1433)
Niu Sele 劉薛列 유설렬 Early 15C, a 斡合千戶 whose name appeared in a Royal letter (1404-1404)
Niu Simbo 柳心甫 유심보 Early 15C, a man who offered local products and defected. He was under the control of Ni Manju. He lived in Jengju(定州). (1435)
Niu Siriju 劉時里主 유시리주 He was a brigade commander-in-chief(都萬戶) of Kolkan(骨看) who lived in 何多山. The father of Niu Yosigo, Niu Nomho (1441-1455)
Niu Sodargim 劉所淡乙金 유소담을금 A vice director(副司正) of Kolkan(骨看) who lived in 草串. The son of Cangdongga. The younger brother of Nyu Niu Sosdongga. The uncle of Agoja (1455)
