  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Niu Nasongga 劉羅松介 유라송개 A Ya-in(野人) who presented local products to the king. (1459)
Niu Naya 柳乃也 유내야 Mid 15C, an Orangkai(兀良哈) who presented local products and was bestowed goods by the king. He became a 都萬戶 of 沙吾耳
Niu Nengpagi 柳能波只 유능파지 1. He is one of the people who fled to 永安北道 and claimed themselves as Jurchen. (1478) 2. He is one of the people who fled to 永安北道. It could not be verified whether he was Chinese or not. (1484) (1478-1484)
Niu Nioha 柳遼何 유료하 A brigade commander(萬戶) of Ya-in(野人) who was given the king's gift. (1405)
Niu Nohoci 柳奴好赤 유노호치 An Orangkai(兀良哈) who presented local products to the king. (1459)
Niu Nomho 劉老音好 유로음호 A Kolkan(骨看) who lived in 何多山. The son of Niu Siriju. The younger brother of Nyu Niu Yosigo (1455)
Niu Nongga 劉農介 유농개 An Odoli(斡朶里) (1445)
