  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Manja 晩者 만자 A Monggol general (1596)
Manomoga 馬奴木哈 마노목합 Early 16C, an 吾道里 who raided Sundu and other nephews in 會寧. He assumed that Maiha captured people from Joseon, and they became enemies. Later, 매하's son made troubles in Joseon. An uncle of Sundu, 土的哈, and 阿多吾. (1510)
Manpi 萬皮 만피 He is one of the people of Ni Manju. He came to Joseon to beg some food and was sent back on the request of 李Manju. (1435)
Mantai 晩太 만태 A chieftain of Ula. He is the elder brother of Bujantai. After trying to free enslaved Bujantai from Nurhaci by giving away 100 horses, which Nurhaci did not approve, he also surrendered. (1596)
Mantuga 滿禿哈 만독합 A brigade commander(萬戶) of Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in Morian. (1457-1459)
Maohan 馬吾罕 마오한 Late 15C, a Ya-in(野人) from 建州右衛 (1494)
Maona 亇吾乃 마오내 Late 15C. Orangkai(兀良哈) (1496)
Mapa 馬波 마파 A director(司正) of Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in 上訓春
Mapa 麻波 마파 A Kolkan(骨看) who lived in 草串. The son of Gim Mohasa. The grandson of Gim Gorgina. The brother of Mohacei
