  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Mandarhan 蠻剌漢 만라한 Early 17C, an envoy of Qing who visited Joseon to carry a funeral ode for the Queen Mother, 牛录额真(in 1628-1632's records)
Manduri 萬都里 만도리 A general of Hulun was killed in Joseon(朝鮮)(1603-1605)
Mangga 末應哈 말응합 Early 15C, a 嫌眞亐狄哈 who asked to be naturalized. He lived in 愁濱江. Araga's older brother. (1434)
Mangga 忘家 망가 A Commander of Hulun Udige(Hulun亐知介). The son of Garongga (1482-1483)
