  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Gim Morangga 金毛郞可 김모랑가 A Jurchen(女眞) who lived in Yeori. The father of Sajongga (1455)
Gim Moso 金木所 김목소 Late 15C, 溫下衛 a Ya-in(野人) who informed the plot of a Ya-in(野人)s to invade Joseon beforehand (1491)
Gim Mugengge 金無巨應於 김무거응어 Mid 15C, a Kolkan Udige(骨看兀狄哈) who presented local products. (1466)
Gim Muriga 金無里介 김무리개 A brigade vice commander(副萬戶) of Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in Morian. (1455-1462)
Gim Musangga 金武上哈 김무상합 Mid 16C, a Ya-in(野人) who lived in 林投. He was persuaded to move to 胡州. He was bestowed goods by the king and moved, but the land was not adequate to farming, so he moved back to 林投. (1542)
Gim Naga 金剌哈 김나합 Mid 15C, 護軍 of Orangkai who lived in 訓春. He presented local products. (1452)
