  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Gim Jajongga 金者終阿 김자종아 A nomad 副司正, who received this posting after success during the 北征. (1460)
Gim Jararo 金者羅老 김자라로 Mid 15C, a Jurchen(女眞) vice director(副司正) who offered local products (1457)
Gim Jasdongga 金者叱同介 김자질동개 A brigade vice commander(副萬戶) of Ya-in(野人) who lived in 伐引. (1456-1459)
Gim Jato 金者土 김자토 Early 16C, 建州衛 Ya-in(野人) who was imprisoned as being suspected of plundering villages in Joseon (1528)
Gim Jatongga 金者通介 김자통개 A Jurchen(女眞) who lived in 鍾城. (1523)
Gim Jebidongga 金這比冬哈 김저비동합 A 大護軍 of Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in 伐引. (1460)
Gim Jehua 金著和 김저화 A battalion commander(千戶) of Orangkai(兀良哈). (1406)
