  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Ardaga 阿乙多哈 아을다합 Mid 15C, a 도골 Dogol兀狄哈 who tried to kill a governor of 鍾城 but failed. (1472)
Ardo 阿乙都 아을도 An Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in 時建. The brother of Sosiu (1455)
Ardoga 阿乙都介 아을도개 An Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in 時建. The brother of Sosiu, Hacingga, Darongga, Darhua. The uncle of Pardo, Parda (1455)
Ardu 阿兒豆 아아두 Mid 15C, Orangkai(兀良哈) who came in to commit theft. He lived in Morian(Mori安) and was naturalized. a nephew of Nang Borhan. (1460-1462)
