(1427~1493). His real name was Liu Ji 劉吉, a native of Boya 博野, jinshi of 1443. He served as bachelor and then compiler of the Hanlin Academy 翰林院. During the reign of Chenghua 成化 (1447-1487), he was made academician of the Grand Secretariat 內閣學士, Minister 尙書 of the Ministry of Revenue 戶部, and Grand Secretary 大學士 of the Grand Secretariat 內閣. After Emperor Hongzhi 弘治 was enthroned in 1487, Liu recieved the emperor's favor and trust. Taking advantage of the imperial favor, he imprisoned many political enemies. Later he lost the emperor's favor and retired. Although he was often prosecuted by censors, he served as the grand secretary for 18 years.
