Li Zicheng 李子成 이자성

(1606~1645?). A native of Yan'an 延安, Shaanxi 陝西. By his early 20s, he was engaged in various minor occupations including shepherd, wine seller, ironworker and officer. Li joined Gao Yingxiang 高迎祥, the rebel leader. In 1636, after Gao's death, Li became the leader of Gao's army and was called the "Dashing King" (Chuang Wang 闖王). He defeated the Ming army at various places, and finally captured Beijing in 1644 whereupon the last Ming emperor, Chongzhen 崇禎 committed suicide. Li proclaimed himself Emperor of the Great Shun Dynasty 大順, but he was defeated by Manchus and escaped southward. It is alleged that he was killed by militia loyal to the Ming dynasty, but his body was never found. It has also been told that he was still alive in the 1670s living as a monk. 이자성(李自成), 자성(自成)

He came to Korea in 1601 as a messenger. He was dispatched by the Ming eunuch, Gao Hui 高淮, to collect local products. 이자태(李自泰), 자태(自泰)
