Emperor Jingzong(景宗, 1004~1048) was the first emperor of the Western Xia(西夏). Early in his reign, he discarded the surnames Li(李) and Zhao(趙), which had been given by the Tang and Song Dynasties, replacing them with the surname Weiming(嵬名). He launched military campaigns against Song, and although the Western Xia won a series of battles, the victories proved to be very costly. In 1044 the Western Xia signed a treaty with the Song Dynasty resulting in nominal acknowledgment of Song sovereignty over Western Xia and the payment of tribute by the Song. (1524-1601). A native of Lanxi 蘭溪 and jinshi of 1568. During the early Wanli 萬曆 period, he was made expositor-in-waiting 侍講 in the Hanlin Academy 翰林院. Since Zhang Juzheng 張居正 resented him, he left the court. After Zhang's death, he returned to court. Later he became Minister 尙書 of the Ministry of Rites 禮部 and participated in important state affairs.
