Liu Yan(劉晏, 716-780) was an official of the Tang Dynasty who served Emperor Daizong(代宗) as chancellor. He was renowned for his reforms of the Tang salt monopoly and food transportation systems. The reforms allowed the Tang economy to recover after An Lushan's disasterous rebellion. (d. 71 CE). A son of Emperor Guangwu of Later Han, and a half-brother of Emperor Ming, the successor of Emperor Guangwu. He received Chu as his hereditary fiefdom in 42 CE. He was most well known for his sponsorship of Buddhism. In 70 CE, he was accused of plotting against the throne and exiled to Danyang, in the lower Yangtze valley.
