  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Yeyengge 汝英哈 여영합 Mid 15C, a Ya-in(野人) who informed Dong Cang of the hearsay that Joseon planned to conquer 建州衛. He lived in 三斜地. (1466)
Yobi 要非 요비 Early 15C, an Orangkai(兀郞哈) who offered local products (1420-1435)
Yobir 要非乙 요비을 Early 15C, who was bestowed goods by the king. Ya-in(野人) 千戶) (1435)
Yodi 要知 요지 A son of Pogi and his wife. Pogi is the second husband of Yaoge, the mother of Fancha. (1438)
Yomorangga 要毛良哈 요모량합 Early 15C, a Ya-in(野人) who once robbed but returned to allegiance. He was bestowed wine as a reward of returning captured people and horses. (1423)
Yongna 融乃 융내 Late 15C, Ni Kerdege's son in law (1470)
Yooga 要吾可 요오가 A Jurchen(女眞) (1456)
Yoroto 要老土 요로토 Late 15C, a Ya-in(野人) who hunted violating the border of Joseon. Later he returned to allegiance and reported the movements of Ya-in(野人) in 蒲州. (1489-1492)
Yosingga 要時應哈 요시응합 Early 15C, an 兀狄哈 千戶 who presented local products and being bestowed goods by the king (1423)
