  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Hahan 何漢 하한 Mid 15C, 會寧 僉節制使 who guarded the border area
Hahara 何何羅 하하라 A Kolkan(骨看) who lived in 何多山. The son of Niu Hircingga. The brother of Nasi the cousin of Niu Borjingga. (1455)
Haida 何伊歹 하이대 Mid 15C, a 指揮 of Jurchen who reported the movements of Hulun. He lived in 慶源. (1461)
Haidina 亥狄乃 해적내 A Ya-in(野人) (1410)
Haisahai 割斯介 할사개 An envoy who informed Joseon that the Chinese king died. (1643)
Haisangga 海桑哈 해상합 An Udige(兀狄哈) who lived in 撒剌兒 and was appointed as a 副萬戶. (1461)
Haise 海西 해서 Early 15C, a 下家人 who fled to Joseon and lived in hiding
Haisengge 海僧哥 해승가 A commander(指揮) of Hulun. The son of Ohoiga. (1443)
Hajingga 下澄介 하징개 A commander(指揮) of Hulun who presented local products to the king. (1439)
Hajur 河主兒 하주아 An ethnic Han(漢), who was captured by the nomads, but fled and went from Joseon to 遼東. (1486)
