Early in his reign, he discarded the surnames Li(李) and Zhao(趙), which had been given by the Tang and Song Dynasties, replacing them with the surname Weiming(嵬名). He launched military campaigns against Song, and although the Western Xia won a series of battles, the victories proved to be very costly. In 1044 the Western Xia signed a treaty with the Song Dynasty resulting in nominal acknowledgment of Song sovereignty over Western Xia and the payment of tribute by the Song. In return, the Western Xia benefited from trade with the Song. He was murdered by his son. | 원호(元昊), 경종(景宗), 이원호(李元昊) |
