The father of Yan Hui 顔回 who was the most beloved disciple of Confucius.
Yan Maoqing 鄢懋卿 언무경
(옌마오칭)
A native of Fengcheng (豐城), Jiangxi (江西) and a jinshi of 1520. Catering to powerful Yan Song (嚴嵩), he was promoted to Vice Minister of the Right (右侍郞) of the Ministry of Justice (刑部) but was impeached and ousted from the post after the fall of Yan Song.
Yan Mingtai 閻鳴泰 염명태
(옌밍타이)
(b. 1572 CE). A native of Zhili 直隸 who won a jinshi degree in 1598. He became a Minister of War (兵部尙書) during the Tianqi era (1621-1627) but died in exile during the Chongzhen era (1628-1644).
Yan Qizhou 嚴期周 엄기주
(옌치저우)
A physician of Army-Inspecting Censor (監軍御史) Chen Xiao (陳效) who was dispatched to Joseon during the Imjin War(or Hideyoshi's Invasion).
Yan Shifan 嚴世蕃 엄세번
(옌스판)
(d. 1565 CE). A son of Yan Song 嚴嵩 who was a powerful courtier during the mid-Ming period. Thanks to his fatehr, he was promoted as high as Vice Minister of the Left (左侍郞) of the Ministry of Works (工部) without a jinshi degree. He was impeached and executed after the death of Yan Song. 세번(世蕃)
Yan Shu 晏殊 안수
(옌수)
Yan Shu(晏殊, 991 ~ 1055) was an official and educator of the Song Dynasty. He earned the jinshi degree at the age of fourteen. He was the teacher of Fan Zhongyan(范仲淹), Kong Daofu(孔道輔) and Ouyang Xiu(歐陽脩). During his tenure as Grand Councilor, he recommended Han Qi(韓琦), Fan Zhongyan(范仲淹) and his son-in-law Fu Bi(富弼). Dismissed from the position of Grand Councilor at 54, he spent the remainder of his life serving in provincial positions. 수(殊), 안수(晏殊), 동숙(同叔), 원헌(元獻)
Yan Shuzi 顔叔子 안숙자
(옌수쯔)
A native of the state of Lu 魯. According to tradition, he is said to have behaved appropriately when a widow lodged in his place to seek shelter from a rainstorm.
Yan Song 嚴嵩 엄숭
(옌쑹)
(1480-1567 CE). A native of Fenyi (分宜), Jiangxi (江西). A jinshi of 1505. As Senior Grand Secretary (內閣首輔) during the Jiajing era (1522-1566) of the Ming, he killed several key courtiers, such as Xia Yan (夏言) and Zeng Xi (曾銑) and monopolized state affairs for over twenty years. In his later years, he was ousted from the post and died of illness. 숭(嵩), 엄각로(嚴閣老), 엄숭(嚴崇)
Yan Wuyao 顔無繇 안무요
(옌우야오)
A native of the state of Lu 魯 during the Spring and Autumn period. A disciple of Confucius. The father of Yan Hui 顔回, the most beloved disciple of Confucius. 곡부후(Qufu Hou 曲阜侯)
Yan Xian 閻顯 염현
(옌셴)
(d. 125 CE). General of chariots and cavalry 車騎將軍 in the court of Emperor Shun of Han 漢順帝. An elder brother of the Empress Yan of Emperor An of Han 漢安帝. 현(Xian 顯)
